Everton managed to earn a 1-1 draw after an unimaginative performance against David Moyes’ West Ham side with Dominic Calvert-Lewin continuing to make a case for his inclusion in the England squad as he once again got on the scoresheet.

Issa Diop had put the Hammers ahead on 40 minutes with an easy header from a routine Robert Snodgrass free-kick. However, the young English striker levelled the scores just three minutes later as he got on the end of a Yerry Mina flick-on from a corner and bagged his 9th league goal of the season.

A superb point-black save from Jordan Pickford just a moment later kept the scores level but further chances were few and far between for both sides after the interval and a 1-1 draw always looked the most likely outcome.

There was also a first league appearance for the Blues’ 18 year old winger Anthony Gordon. The England U19 regular replaced Bernard at half-time but was unable to make much of an impact upon the game. He was part of a midfield that included Theo Walcott, who will certainly serve as a reminder to Gordon of what an English winger who failed to live up to his potential looks like.
